January Titles

I used to photograph every book I was reading and post them to a Facebook folder.  I succeeded in all of 2015 and made it most of the way in 2016. I’m trying something new this year.  At the end of each month, I’ll blog about the titles I read that month.  The most note-worthy reads will include a photo (this will help me remember my favorites for my end-of-the-year favorite books post).   You can follow me on Goodreads if you don’t want to wait until the end of the month to see what titles I’m reading.

January 20177 books read

Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel.  (Young Adult-like sci-fi) A fun story.  Written by a non-author, which is always impressive. Sequel to be published this spring.

Columbine by David Cullen. Investigative narrative of the families affected by Columbine shootings.

We are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Jay Fowler.  If the description of this book portrayed the actual story, I would not have picked it up to read.  The brilliantly written description reeled me in and yet, about 1/3 of the way in, I was reading a completely different story, but one that kept my focus.  A beautiful story, very well-told.

The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking. Sweet little coffeetable book and easy to read.  Loved that he included some yummy recipes and crafting instructions for holiday decorations.  Can’t wait for Glogg Parties, 2017!

themothersThe Mothers by Brit Bennett. Amazing and heartbreaking story.  Read it.

History of Wolves by Emily Fridlund. I wanted so much more to the ending of this.  I hated the way it ended.  But the story was fantastic.  Until the last two pages.  So to me, that makes it a disappointing book.

darkmatterDark Matter by Blake Crouch.  I’ve been waiting for this one since this past summer when I first heard about it.  Our library just got copies this past week and I snatched up the first copy and read it in two days.  It was so worth the wait, and deserves all the hype.  A great sci-fi alternative universe type read.  My favorite read of the month!

I am currently listening to The Mosquito Coast by Paul Theroux on my phone while I work on my crafting projects.  Stay tuned to February’s post (will be posted the last few days of the month) to see what I thought of that one.
