being a guest on a fantastic podcast…

Posted by in books

A few weeks ago, I was interviewed by Anne Bogel, who runs the Modern Mrs. Darcy blog and hosts the What Should I Read Next podcast. I’ve been listening to the podcast for at least the entire time it’s been airing (every Tuesday, for the past two years), and I love it because it replaced the gap of another beloved podcast of mine (Books on the Nightstand) which has been off the air for a while now. I’ve always been a reader, but not like recently when I’ve discovered how…read more

best books of 2017

Posted by in books

My Goodreads goal in 2017 was to read 40 books.  I read 70, and in those, here are my favorites. These were the cream of the crop – the very best of them, and I am a better person for having read them.  That is why I love reading so very much. It stretches and teaches you.  Especially the fiction. Fiction: The Mothers – Brit Bennett I remember reading this during the winter months last year and really loving the story.  Such good writing and characters.   The Kept –…read more

…and the living is easy

it has been the longest and the shortest summer. it was the shortest because we were super busy with two shows (the boys’ kid show at the local community theatre and our shakespeare in the park which was stretched over three weekends through the end of august), and soccer starting in JULY (after ending in june). and august was COLD (highs in the lows 70s, down into the 50s at night) so we barely used the pool and ended up closing it before september! it was the longest because hello…read more

May Titles

Posted by in books

It was not a month of reading on the deck.  May was colder (by far!) than April.  So I found cozy spots in the house to continue my reading. My Goodreads reading challenge is to read 40 books this year.  I’m already at 33 books read (in the middle of #34!).  I challenged myself to read 50 books last year and end up a few books over that.  I lowered my reading challenge this year because I wanted to read longer, harder reads.  I have only read one of those…read more

April Titles

Posted by in books

April was a great month of reading.  I think I read most of my favorite books of the year this month!  We started busy – closing weekend of the hobnob theatre co. spring show (“Art” directed by our friend Casey) and the beginning of outdoor soccer.  We are doing soccer 6 days out of the week – whether it’s practice or games.  We’re busy!  But it’s the kind of busy that doesn’t feel busy.  It’s an enjoyable busy. And I had time to read a lot!  Seriously…these are some of my…read more

March Titles

Posted by in books

I’m half a month late with this post (it’s okay – I’m only doing this for my records since I don’t have blog readers anymore)! March was the month of non-fiction for me.  April is back to fiction titles (more on that at the end of this month).  I cooked a lot and I read about cooking and food and restaurants. I also read about homeschooling and social media.  It was a weird reading month…but a great month overall.  We produced our spring show (directed by our good friend and…read more

February Titles

Posted by in books

It’s been a month since I last blogged. And it’s time for my February Title post.  February, typically, is the worst month of the year for me.  It just feels like it moves. so. s-l-o-w-l-y. I felt like I read more in February, but I read the exact number of titles in February as I did in January.  Probably because the month didn’t fly by, like January did. I note a trend in titles this month: I read a lot of creepy stories, with the exception of two. Also, all…read more

my, how things have changed

i’ve lost my blogging voice.  and while that’s not a bad thing, it’s a lonely, boring place to be. i can’t pinpoint when i lost it – definitely a few years ago when facebook and instagram took over my daily accounting.  and then i think fear took over. fear of saying the wrong thing; of unintentionally hurting someone because of something i wrote.  and now…after not blogging for forever, i want to write again.  but what do i write? when i started blogging, we had babies.  only two of them…but…read more

best books of 2016

Posted by in books

Reading is still one of my favorite ways to spend my time.  It’s the introvert’s dream…to be a spectator in a world you don’t have to physically participate in. My reading challenge on Goodreads was to read 50 books in the year 2016.  I read about 56 books.  I lowered my book reading challenge to 40 for 2017 because I want to read more substantial books this year.  The thick ones that I won’t be able to finish in a few evenings. 2016 was the third year in a row that…read more

books of 2015

Posted by in books

Since January of 2015, I have kept a photographic journal of the books I read, in order, through the year.  I will continue this through this next year since i really enjoyed keeping up with a list.  I think it also helped me not to get in a reading rut…not knowing what to read next.  I follow podcasts and read book lists and look at others’ recommendations to line up my next books.  I don’t have a specific theme in the books I read…I only read what looks interesting to…read more
